Former PGA of Australia Trainee of the Year Paul Archbold will take advantage of a special sponsor’s invitation to make a rare appearance on Europe’s Staysure Tour at this week’s WINSTONgolf Senior Open.

""To be played in the German city of Vorbeck, the WINSTONlinks course is almost three hours north of Michendorf where Archbold is the Director of Golf at the Golf-und Country Club Seddiner See, the club that has been his home for almost a decade.

Hailing from Perth originally, Archbold won the Western Australia Junior Open and the Australian PGA Trainee Championship in 1986 before going on to be crowned Trainee of the Year a year later.

He teed it up in the 1990 British Open at St Andrews before going on to accept the role as head professional at Golfclub Gatow in Berlin in 1994, spending the majority of the past 25 years based in Germany.

Other Australians lining up at WINSTONgolf this week are Peter Fowler, Mike Harwood and Peter O’Malley along with Kiwi Greg Turner. All will be hoping they can emulate the deeds of Terry Price who was the inaugural winner of the WINSTONgolf Senior Open in 2012.

On the Champions Tour in the US the Aussie flag will be flown by Peter Lonard and David McKenzie at the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship to be played at Exmoor Country Club in Illinois.

Currently ranked 49th in the Charles Schwab Cup, McKenzie has finished inside the top 30 in his three most recent starts including a tie for 28th at the US Senior Open a fortnight ago.

The SENIOR PLAYERS Championship represents just the second Champions Tour start for Lonard this year, the New South Welshman finishing tied for 23rd at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship in May.
