Jeong is enjoying being back in Perth; however the attention
that goes along with being the defending champion is taking some getting used
to for the 24-year-old.
"It’s definitely great to
be back. I always enjoy this place," said Jeong.
"But there is a little bit pressure
seeing myself on walls and
posters, people when I walk
past they shake my hand and say, ‘hey, defending champion.’ But it’s good experience."
"I guess that’s my
challenge for this week. It’s part of not thinking about stuff other than my
goals and my game."
Leading into his title defence it has been a year of
learning for Jeong who has competed full time on the European Tour, a benefit
of having won the Perth International.
"I am learning all new
experiences this year and
enjoying being on Tour," added Jeong.
"I’m learning how to manage myself a
little bit better and how to prepare at a tournament."
"Every week is a different country, different style of course, and
different type of grass."
"I need to learn how
to adapt and play well in those new
conditions. It’s been really good
experience just a learning curve I
guess."
So far this year
Jeong has played 22 events in at least 13 different countries.
He has made the cut
six times highlighted by a runner-up finish at the Joburg Open which also
earned him a place in the field at The Open Championship.
Jeong believes returning to the PGA Tour of Australasia and
the site of his first Professional victory may provide the catalyst to reinvigorate
his game.
"When I got to the
first tee yesterday good
memories came into my
head. I feel fresh again," said Jeong.
"It’s good to play the PGA Tour
of Australasia
again. I know all the players and I have a lot of friends out
here. So I feel a lot more comfortable
playing in Australia.
"It would be great if
I can have some turning point this week."
