The Ian Weigh Toyota Rockhampton Pro-Am kicked off today at Rockhampton Golf Club with the rain staying away for the opening round.

The tournament, now in its 18th year, welcomed back previous winners including current Web.com Tour members Adam Crawford and Ashley Hall together with last year’s winner Troy Cox returning and ready to defend his title.

Damien Jordan made the most of perfect playing conditions to card a 9-under 63 to hold a three shot lead over Charles Wright while also setting a new course record at the Rockhampton Golf Club.

Jordan’s round included 10 birdies, with his lone blemish coming at the 200 metre par 3, 2nd hole.

"I was a little disappointed after my performance in Mackay last week, and although I was able to make the cut, I knew my game was in much better shape then what the scores indicated," said Jordan.

"Today was great, and I never looked back after holing some putts early. It’s nice to put a solid score on the board in the opening round and hopefully I can build on this start over the final three rounds."

Round two will get underway tomorrow morning, with Jordan due to tee off at 8:10am.
