West Australian Young gun Daniel Hoeve is the co-leader after the first round of the South West Open in Bunbury after completing an early morning 4-under 68.

Hoeve has been a strong contender week in week out so far this season.

His outstanding play of late has included an emphatic breakthrough win at the Pinjarra Golf Club Pro-Am, which included a stretch of eight birdies in a row.

"I was feeling good out there today and didn’t make any silly mistakes. With the greens this quick it’s imperative to leave yourself in the right positions coming into the greens. If you’re out of position it’s easy to make a big number," said Hoeve.

Notables in the field include Rory Bourke (NSW) also on 4-under, Mitchell Brown (NSW) just one shot back on 3-under, Grant Thomas (NSW) the defending champion on 72 (Ev) and the low female Professional in the field Danielle Montgomery (WA) on 1-under 71.
