Round 1 of the 2015 Coca-Cola Rich River Trainee Classic commences tomorrow at the Rich River Golf Club Resort on the Murray River in Moama, New South Wales. With 140 Trainees representing every state in Australia teeing up to compete for the $34,000 prize money, the tournament again promises to be an enthralling battle.
This is the longest running 4-round event at the same venue in the history of the PGA. Celebrating 28 consecutive years of the event, the field is particularly strong with favourites for this year’s championship including 2014 Rich River and 2014 National Futures Champion, Taylor Cooper; 2014 Southern Trainee Champion Brad Moules; and 2014 NSW/ACT and QLD Trainee Champion, Deyen Lawson. Being the first 4 round tournament of the calendar there will be may first year Trainees who will be out to impress their peers and prove themselves, which will ensure a firm favourite is hard to pick.
The Rich River Trainee Classic is unique with female Trainees competing alongside the male Trainees for the same prize purse and title. A total of six females will battle the boys this year in an attempt to take out the Championship. A significant amount of new first year Trainees will be out to prove their ability in their first four-round event as Trainee Professionals.
The club and course is again presented in perfect condition, providing Trainee competitors with smoothly rolling greens and flawless fairways. Spectators who visit the course over the four day tournament are guaranteed to be treated to excellent golf, with favourable weather all week a low score expected to take out the title.
With Trainees all battling to walk away with the winner’s cheque of $6,120, they will also be aiming to out-drive each other in the Doug Fraser Long Drive Competition on Monday evening, with the winner walking away with $500 cash. The long drive competition is held in honour of the long-serving Rich River member and tournament volunteer, Doug Fraser, who before his untimely passing, was the driving force behind the running of the Rich River Trainee Classic.
The future of Australian golf is on show at the Rich River Golf Club Resort from 3rd February – 6th February, where one Trainee will ultimately prove themselves worthy of the title of 2015 Coca-Cola Rich River Trainee Classic Champion.
