Second title in Millar’s sights

A relaxing couple of days lie ahead for Australian golfer Matthew Millar, as he prepares for this week’s BMW New Zealand Open in Queenstown.

"MatthewMillar has arrived in Central Otago fresh off his
maiden victory on the PGA Tour of Australasia, having claimed the NZ PGA
Championship title at Remuera yesterday.  The 38-year-old is now
contemplating the possibility of two titles in two weeks.

It’s a whole new experience for Millar, but he’s
keeping his feet on the ground.

"It’s a great achievement, but you just have to try to
take the positives out of what you’ve done and start again. I’ve been playing
well for weeks which is a help, so I’ll just start again on Thursday."

His one concession is to give himself a lazy day at
The Hills course on Tuesday, having played there a number of times in the past.

I might just walk and chip and putt or something, and
then play Millbrook on Wednesday because I haven’t seen that course yet.
Then I’ll be ready and fresh for Thursday."

Millar’s confidence is also boosted by playing at The
Hills, where he has played well in the past, finishing in a share of fourth
place at the Open in 2007. He’s been back several times since, and while he
hasn’t had the same level of success, it’s still a course he enjoys.

"There are a couple of holes that are not quite up my
alley, but there are a lot of holes that are.  I guess if you are
controlling your ball quite nicely most golf courses will give you some
opportunities, so I hope to do that this week."

Certainly, his recent results suggest Millar has great
control over his golf ball, so he has every right to feel confident.
However, he also has fellow golfer David Bransdon as a travel companion, which
keep him from getting over confident.

"We just give each other a fair bit of stick which is
good. Dave and I have travelled together for a lot of years now and we’ve
recently had Aaron Townsend and Daniel Fox join us which is a lot of fun."

No doubt it will be even more fun, with the BMW New
Zealand Open title under his belt.

The BMW New Zealand Open will be played at The Hills
and Millbrook Resort from March 12-15, 2015.
