Canberra’s Matt Millar has taken out the Better Homes Port Macquarie Pro-Am with a one shot win over defending champion Anthony Summers.
Millar carded a final round of 2-under 69 and a 36-hole total of 5-under (137) which was enough to overtake round one leader Jake Higginbottom who stumbled on the final day, posting a four-over-par 75 to slip outside the top-10.
The win highlights an amazing run of form from the 38-year old who recently won the Holden NZ PGA Championship in March.
"I think I have discovered a nice balance between golf and family and just getting back to some fundamentals," said Millar who came close to winning his own Pro-Am last week at his home club of Gold Creek in Canberra.
"I have been playing well and it’s nice to be rewarded with a win like this at a great event where I have come close before but never won," added Millar.
Despite two bogeys in his final three holes including a three-put bogey on the last green, Millar did enough to take out the title in front of a strong Port Macquarie crowd.
Joining Summers in second place was Victorian Rory Bourke who posted his best finish of the 2015 Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series.
Local favourite Andrew Kirkman a rookie in 2015, could only manage a one-over-par 72 on Wednesday’s final round but enjoyed the experience of playing on his home course and alongside Millar.
The Mid-North-Coast swing of events continues Thursday with the Kew Pro-Am hosting another quality field including defending champion Matt Giles and former USPGA Tour star Nathan Green.
South West Rocks will then play host to the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series on Friday before Wauchope on the weekend.
