One Direction’s Niall Horan will provide inspiration to young golfers worldwide when he joins World Number One, Rory McIlroy, in the BMW PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am at Wentworth Club in a fortnight.

""
Horan’s inclusion in the BMW PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am serves as an excellent motivator to encourage more young golfers to get out on course.

I love golf, it’s a fantastic sport for all ages and I would urge young people to get out there and give it a go," he said.

Following on from Horans Masters debut as McIlroy’s caddy in the pre-Masters Tournament Par 3 contest at Augusta National last month, the pair will hit the fairways again at Wentworth’s iconic West Course for the annual curtain raiser to the European Tour’s flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship.

"I can’t wait to play with Rory, Phil and Paul.  It’s going to be a great event," Horan said when asked by the European Tour.

"I know how prestigious the BMW PGA Championship is as the European Tour’s flagship event, so the opportunity to play in the Pro-Am with my mate Rory and two legends of football is going to be amazing – what a team!"

McIlroy noted how the pair enjoyed their time at the Masters and playing the tournament together.

"Niall and I had good fun together in the Par 3 contest at the Masters and I’m looking forward to seeing him again at Wentworth, without the boiler suit."

While Horan is used to big crowds, he is a little daunted by the prospect of encountering a large audience while paying golf.

"I’ve heard there are pretty big crowds there on the day. I’m used to those but not when I’m on a golf course,"

"I’ll probably be more nervous at Wentworth than I was performing in front of thousands with 1D, so I’m hoping Rory will give me a few tips on calming the nerves," he said.

The BMW PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am will be played at Wentworth Club on May 20 prior to the BMW PGA Championship, which gets underway on May 21.
