Matt Jones continues to lead the Emirates Australian Open
following the third round played today at The Australian Golf Club in
Sydney.
Jones held his nerve and stuck to his game plan today closing with back-to-back
birdies to fire 3-under 68 in the third round.
Leading the Emirates Australian Open by three shots, Jones is looking to
control his aggression in the final round to minimise his mistakes and ensure
he sets himself up with an opportunity to claim the Stonehaven Cup.
World Number 1 Jordan Spieth fired 4-under 67 today to ensure he sets up a
final round pairing with Jones.
While some players might be nervous at the prospect of playing alongside the
World Number 1, Jones is looking forward to tomorrow when he gets to compete
against his mate.
Spieth’s round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 17th which
earned a huge cheer from the Sydney crowd.
Sitting outright third on the leaderboard on 5-under the card is Rhein Gibson
who just this year earned his ticket to the PGA TOUR.
A shot further back is first round leader Lincoln Tighe and Aron Price who each
had 1-under 70 at The Australian today.
Geoff Ogilvy remains at 3-under the card after his second even par round in a
row.
Adam Scott recorded his best round of the Emirates Australian Open today firing
3-under 68 to move into the top-10. Joining him on 1-under the card after three
rounds are Brett Rumford, Todd Sinnott and Ryder Cup Captain Darren Clarke.
The final round of the Emirates Australian Open will tee off tomorrow at 7.14am
with the final pair of Matt Jones and Jordan Spieth on course at 12.40pm.

Key Quotes:
Matt Jones, 67, 68,
68, 10-under, 1st
"One more day to go, I get to play with him; be no better person to beat
on the final day and have him in the group with me. So yeah, to go up
against the number 1 in the world will be a lot of fun."
"I’m just happy to be in the final group leading the golf tournament with
a chance to win. Of course we play golf for a living and to have the chance to
win is what you want, and to go up against the number 1 in the world is even
better."
Jordan Spieth, 71,
68, 67, 7-under, 2nd
"When I finished the round I thought I’d either be tied or one back and it
looks like I may be two or three, either way, it’s a lot better than I was to
four holes today. Great fight back, one of the best fought rounds I’ve
had that I can remember."
"He’s a guy (Matt Jones) who can, with confidence, really roll his putter
well. He’s a guy who isn’t fazed by the wind. He hits a nice little
punch ball draw flight and he’s not letting up."
Rhein Gibson, 72,
68, 67, 5-under, 3rd
"I knew it was going to be a little tough today with the wind and the bigger
crowds but I had a good front-9 which kind of settled me down a bit and happy
to shoot 3-under."
"This is one of my top three courses in Australia. I love coming
here. The greens are absolutely perfect. You get some balls
tracking on line, they’re going to go in."
Adam Scott, 71, 73,
68, 1-under, T7
"Just going out there, teeing off under par, it’s always a good feeling but the
difference between 5 or 6, or 7 and 8 shots is so huge."
"You never know how they’re going to finish up but at least I clawed into red
figures and start tomorrow hopeful of something special."
