The 9-hole layout was in the best condition it’s been for years thanks to recent rain with four players beating the par 72.
Queenslander Stephen Woodhead was the pace setter, carding 5-under 67 to be two shots ahead of Hervey Bay Professional, Stephen Taylor.
With the sun shining and the mercury rising the afternoon field, headlined by Rodger Davis, took to the course.
As a brisk southerly wind kept players on their toes, Queensland’s Craig Warren fired a 67 to equal the best of the morning field.
David Merriman also went under par with a 71 which saw seven players in red figures heading into the final round.
Perfect conditions continued on day two with the temperature far more appealing to morning players than the previous day.
Paul Dalgleish and Brisbane’s Bruce McLean took advantage of the calmer conditions to return 3-under 69 for totals of 149, but it was Brad Burns who held the clubhouse lead on 147.
The leading 25 players took to the course in the afternoon with Craig Warren and Steve Taylor both faltered carding 77 and 75 respectively.
However, it was tour rookie and overnight leader Stephen Woodhead who, in only his fourth outing, backed up his 67 with another to be 10-under the card to claim victory by 7 shots over David Hughes, who together with John Onions were the only players to be under par for the tournament.
