After a brilliant T4 finish at the one-off PGA TOUR-China event in Hong Kong last week New Zealand’s Fraser Wilkin returns to the China Golf Tour with the best form of the six Australasians teeing up at the Jingsau Open.
Wilkin finished four shots behind winner James Marchesani at the difficult Clearwater Bay golf course and will be keen to retain that form at the fourth last event of the schedule this week.
Wilkin has been in middling form for much of his rookie season in China but seems a good chance to improve on his best finish to date, a T11 in just his second start five months ago. He is joined in the field by Maverick Antcliff, Peter Martin, Mitchell Brown, Kevin Yuan and Australia’s best performer in China, Bryden Macpherson.
Macpherson is second on the Order of Merit with a win and five other top-10 finishes in 10 starts but returns to China after a disappointing finish at the second stage of European Tour school last week.
A final round 79 at El Saler in Spain saw him drop from inside the required number to advance to final stage to outside the number, a heartbreaking finish to an otherwise good week.
A proven performer in China, Macpherson will be keen to make amends for that stumble and it would be no surprise if he were among the contenders this week.
