Veteran Richard Green gets a chance to return to the European Tour when he is one of three Australians to take his place in the final full field event of the season in Spain.
Green joins Jason Scrivener and Wade Ormsby for the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama presented by the Sergio Garcia Foundation, all three playing for higher stakes than just this week’s purse.
Scrivener and Ormsby are both dangerously close to the cut off number to keep cards next year at 105th and 106th in the Race to Dubai respectively while Green is outside the top-200 and likely needs a win if he is to play in 2018.
The top-111 retain playing privileges, this week’s tournament the last any of the three will be eligible for barring something special this week.
The limited field WGC HSBC Champions is next on the schedule with the three Race to Dubai Finals Series tournaments, open only to those in the top-60 in the rankings, to follow.
Green has teed up 13 times this season but has been unable to gain any real momentum as he has had to take his opportunities as they arose.
With five missed cuts and a best finish of T30 at the Nordea Masters the three-time Tour winner has all to play for and nothing to lose this week.
For Scrivener and Ormsby the tricky Valderrama layout will be the key this week, Ormsby having played one tournament at the course for a missed cut while Scrivener makes his debut.
The course has been a source of frustration for many over the years and patience will be key to success this week.
