Geoff Ogilvy
Official World Golf Ranking: 240
Previous Appearances: 12
Best finish: Win (2006, Winged Foot)
One of only two Australians to win the coveted US Open, 2016 is Ogilvy’s last guaranteed start at the event as the 10 year exemption for his 2006 victory runs out this year.
While his 2016 form has been far from his best Ogilvy has showed signs of life in recent weeks and but for a clumsy triple bogey late in his final round at Muirfield Village could have been inside the top-10.
As a student of both the game and course design, Ogilvy will be excited to tee up at one of the most storied courses in US Open history, Oakmont.
It is the course where he defended his title in 2007 and while he eventually finished T42 that year an opening round 71 had him in the top-5 through 18 holes and showed he is capable of scoring at one of the most demanding layouts in the game.
The putter will be the key for Ogilvy this week whose ball striking is as good, as at any time in his career. If he has a good week with the flatstick, Ogilvy could surprise.
