Tough week for Aussies at The Grove

A shift in venue did little for the Australian contingent at the British Masters, none of the four who teed up making it to the weekend.

A shift in venue did little for the Australian contingent at the British Masters, none of the four who teed up making it to the weekend.

""Australian Nathan Holman retired after four holes of his second round for unspecified reasons while Brett Rumford, Richard Green and Andrew Dodt all fell outside the even par cut line.

A desperate final hole birdie in the second round brought Green within one of playing the weekend but five bogeys in an opening round of 2-over 73 proved too much to overcome

Rumford and Dodt both finished a shot further back, two double bogeys in his Friday round proving Rumford’s undoing while Dodt managed just four birdies in 36 holes offset by four bogeys and a double.

With all three presently outside the top 110 on the Race to Dubai standings it was a result they could ill afford.

That’s the cut off point for guaranteed status in 2017 and Green now finds himself 121st, Rumford 123rd and Dodt 146th.

Next week’s Portugal Masters is the final full field event of the season and likely the last opportunity for all three to climb the required number of spots and avoid a trip to Qualifying School in December.
