WA’s Brody Martin has continued his strong vein of form winning the 2018 Steelscene Ladbrokes Pro-Am by three shots.
With a strong line up assembled for the 54-hole event played around three of the Peel regions spectacular golf courses, on a perfect first day, the scoring didn’t disappoint.
Mandurah Country Club hosted the first round with a field of 120 amateurs and professionals looking to get off to a flyer for the three-day event.
Nine professionals broke 70 in round one with the top-4 spots after the first 18-holes going to Michael Long 65, Rory Bourke and Braden Becker 67 and Matt Jager 68.
Round two moved to the former WA Open host of the 90’s, Meadow Springs CC. The course was yet another example of a pristine Peel golf course that impressed the field.
The course with its immaculate greens and tight pins did make scoring tough for most of the field but the in-form players continued to move away from the rest of the field to the top of the leaderboard.
Jager, Bourke, Cameron John and Haydon Webb shot 1-under 71, while Brady Watt, Jarryd Felton, and overnight leader Long shot 2-under 70. Peel local Braden Becker shot the second lowest round of the day with 3-under 69.
But it was Martin who took a stranglehold on the event by jumping to the lead after two rounds with a course record-equalling 9-under 63.
“This course is in phenomenal condition. The greens are absolutely pure and I definitely took advantage of them today by rolling them beautifully,” said Martin following the second round.
The Cut Golf Course was next on the agenda for the professionals and with an unusually calm wind on a perfect day they were excited to take advantage and make a run in the final round.
Local favourite Braden Becker and inform Brody Martin were battling to decide the winner. Having played this course many times Becker probably had the upper hand but knew he would have to post a low one to peg back the four-shot deficit.
He recorded 3-under 69 and waited for Martin to post his score.
When Martin came off the course with a 2-under 70, the tournament was his. Golf has looked very simple of late for the former PGA Trainee Professional.
“It’s been a great couple of weeks and I look forward to hopefully continuing this form throughout the rest of the WA Swing. Big thanks must go to my team for continually helping me strive to be the best. I can’t thank everyone involved this week enough for another fantastic event,” said Martin
This is Martin’s second multiple round win on WA soil after claiming last year’s South West Open.
