The Mercedes-Benz Cairns Classic was the final stop on the midyear leg of the Ladbrokes Legends Tour in Queensland.
Paradise Palms played host, with the 35 competing professionals praising the condition of Cairns’ premier golf course.
Richard Backwell completed a fine run of form in recent weeks to claim the win.
Backwell secured the win following his 1-under 70, to hold off Tim Elliott and Perry Parker, who is once again competing in Australia from his homeland of America.
"The course here really suits me, it requires plenty of fairways and greens and that’s exactly what I did out there today,” said Backwell.
“I really enjoyed playing alongside Martin Peterson. We fed off each other all day and it wasn’t until the closing holes that I finally got my head in front.
“It’s such a treat to play a course like Paradise Palms and let’s hope we get the opportunity to return here in the near future.”
The Legends will now enjoy a few weeks break before heading to New Caledonia for the South Pacific Classic in mid-September.
