Over 50 PGA Trainee Professionals were treated to a special occasion this week as The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney hosted the weekly NSW/ACT PGA Trainee Match.
The strong field of PGA Trainees were excited to tackle The Lakes layout, especially as it is hosting this year’s Emirates Australian Open from November 15 – 18.
Perfect conditions and an immaculate golf course greeted the PGA Trainees and the winning score matched the quality of venue with New South Wales’ Golf Club first-year Trainee, Allan Haughie having a day to remember, firing an 8-under par round of 64.
Haughie made a 3-putt bogey on the 3rd hole before reeling off nine birdies in his final 15 holes to street the field and claim his second PGA Trainee Match win of 2018.
Kogarah Golf Club’s, Mitchell Gannon finished runner-up with a solid round of 2-under par 70, with Asquith Golf Club PGA Trainee, Brayden Petersen also registering a sub-par round of 1-under 71 to finish outright third.
The Lakes Golf Club, Director of Golf and PGA Professional, Paul Sainsbury was excited to welcome the PGA Trainees to the venue and to see them enjoying the world-class facilities.
"I was a PGA Trainee not too long ago and the opportunities the PGA Trainee Program provided me were fantastic," Sainsbury said.
"I am fortunate to have the challenging yet rewarding role of managing the golf operation here at The Lakes. We’re really excited to host the upcoming Emirates Australian Open and preparations are in full swing," stated Sainsbury.
The PGA Trainee Program involves a practical playing component in addition to academic and workplace commitments across the three years of the program.
Attainment of Full Vocational Membership of the PGA of Australia is the end goal following completion of all program requirements.
Applications are now being accepted for anyone interested in commencing a PGA Traineeship in 2019.
