Professional Brad Burns has shot rounds of 68, 66 for a 10-under par 134 total to claim victory by one shot over Ian Esson and Simon Pope in the Middlemount South Pro-Am at the Middlemount Golf and Country Club.

""Burns started the day one shot behind overnight leader Nick Russell and shot the low round of the day 6-under 66 to storm home.

Sunshine Coast-based Burns’ round included seven birdies and just the one bogey coming at the par-3 17th hole.

“I got off to a really good start to the round making four birdies in my first five holes," said Burns.

“This gave me a real confidence boost and allowed me to play aggressive golf for the remainder of the round.

“My only dropped shot for the day was on the 17th where I just missed the green, I played a nice chip shot to about 4-feet of the hole but unfortunately I missed the putt to save par.

“I made a solid par up the last hole which was a nice way to finish and proved good enough to secure the win.”

The next best-placed professionals was Toowoomba City Golf Club Professional Ian Esson and South Australian Simon Pope who both finished at 9-under par for the two rounds and a tournament total of 135.

Queenslander Brett Rankin still holds the lead for the Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series at 29-under par extending his lead to be six shots clear of Paul Hayden and Brad Burns who are currently sitting second at 23-under par.

The next stop on the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series will be the Tieri Golf Club where play begins at 7.00am Tuesday 29 May for the Glencore Oaky Creek Tieri Pro-Am.
