American Richard Gilkey has held off a high quality field to claim his second victory on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour at the Bega Cheese Pro-Am at Tura Beach Country Club.
In his rookie season on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour in 2019, Gilkey continued his early season form with a flawless 6-under 67 which included six birdies and no bogeys.
‘‘I’ve been out here about a week just trying to get used to the course,” said Gilkey of his first visit to the Merimbula region.
“They’ve had a whole lot of rain over the past week and I actually couldn’t get out the course that much.
“The team here have done a fantastic job and to get the course playable after all the rain has been a mighty effort.”
The hottest player on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour so far in 2019, Mike Harwood, finished in second place as the only other player to shoot in the 60’s with a round of 4-under 69.
Completing the tournament in third was John Onions with 3-under 70, while Peter Lonard and Richard Blackwell rounded out the top five with 2-under 71.
Defending champion Glenn Joyner finished in a tie for sixth on 1-under 72.
Following a break in the calendar the Ladbrokes Legends Tour moves to Queensland next month for the Brookwater Legends Pro-Am on 26-27 April, 2019.
Glenn Joyner shot a round of 4-under 69 to win the $30,000 Bega Cheese Ladbrokes Legends Pro-Am at Tura Beach Country Club.

In the 27th year of the Pro-Am Ladbrokes Legends event was a great success with Joyner recording a three shot victory over Steven Aisbett, Steve Conran, Mike Harwood, Colin Hunt and Michael Mosher who all finished at 1-under par.
59 senior Professionals competed for the substantial one day purse but it was Joyner’s finish of four birdies in the last six holes that got him over the line.
At a time when the area has been ravaged by bushfires the community and Bega Cheese have rallied to raise money to help those in need.
Both Joyner and Ken Tarling of Canada are staying on as guest speakers at the Golf Club dinner tonight with all proceeds going to the Tathra Bushfire Appeal.
The win has moved Joyner into second place on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour Order of Merit as they move onto Killara for the David Mercer Senior Classic on 5 April where players will compete for the largest one day purse on the Tour, $70,000.
Mike Harwood looking to consolidate his position at number one and claim the exemption into the KitchenAid US PGA Seniors Championship in May.
