After a solid year on the Sunshine swing of the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series, Queensland professional Blake Proverbs has been crowned the OnPlatinum ICT Rookie of the Year.
Blake Proverbs has completed a successful debut season recording consistent performances throughout the year including four top-10 finishes highlighted by his breakthrough victory on the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series at the Southport Pro-Am.
Aside from the honour of being awarded Rookie of the Year, Proverbs will also receive financial support to attend an overseas Qualifying School, which will present the perfect opportunity to further his playing career.
The 21 year old credits his grandfather for introducing him to the game of golf. At age seven Proverbs joined the junior program at the Pacific Golf Club in Brisbane.
“My Grandfather was responsible for getting me to the golf club early on a Saturday morning so I could attend the junior clinic”, said Proverbs.
After spending a number of years developing his game Proverbs was rewarded for his hard work and dedication in 2013, being selected to represent Queensland at age 16. He went on to represent Queensland for a further three years prior to earning his Tour Card for the 2017 ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia season.
The Brisbane based professional wanted to use this year as an opportunity to gain as much experience as possible on the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series while also improving his ranking on the Order of Merit, ahead of attending Asian Qualifying School in January 2018.
“Winning this award has given me the chance to take my professional career to the next level,” said Proverbs.
“My ultimate goal is to play golf on a full time basis and I would love the opportunity one day to compete on the PGA Tour.
“I am very grateful for the opportunities that I have been given so far in my career and with this financial support I am able to take the next step by attending Asian Qualifying School.
“It is a great privilege to win this award and I would like to thank Robbie Bennetts and OnPlatinum ICT for their sponsorship, taking the pressure off what can be an expensive exercise in going to an overseas qualifying school.
OnPlatinum ICT has been a large supporter of golf for many years and is proud to provide the next generation of Australian professional golfers an opportunity to further their careers on the international stage.
“If we are able to make a difference to a young professional’s career by providing them an opportunity to compete on an international tour, then we have achieved our objective through support of this award,” said Group CEO at RB Enterprises group of companies Robbie Bennetts.
“I gain so much enjoyment from being commercially involved in the game of golf. Being able to watch young professionals like last year’s winner Dale Brandt-Richards develop their knowledge and skills, is very satisfying and we wish Blake all the best for his international endeavours”
