Another beautiful day greeted players at Maroochy River Golf Club for the final round of the Maroochy River Pro-Am.
Professional Michael Wright has claimed victory in the Maroochy River Pro-Am following another day of consistent play.
Wright is a previous winner here in 2016 had a one-shot lead over the field heading into the final round following his opening round of 6-under par 66 and backed up today with a 2-under 70 for a tournament total of 8-under par 136.
As expected the wind picked up in the afternoon combined with quicker greens and a few challenging pin positions made scoring more difficult for the players.
“The wind was really strong when I arrived at the course,” said Wright.
“I got off to a really poor start to my round, making a double down the first hole.
“Despite the tougher scoring conditions and my bad start I still managed to give myself a number of birdie opportunities inside 10 feet.
“These greens are magnificent and probably some of the best greens we will putt on all year, the course is a credit to all the staff and members of the Maroochy River Golf Club.”
Finishing in a tie for second position were Queenslanders Brett Rankin and Aaron Wilkin along with Victorian Cameron John on 7-under par 137 for the 36 holes.
“I played really steady golf over the last two days," said John.
“I knew I would need to stay patient on this course and not try and force any birdies.
“I am pleased with this result and it will give me a boost of confidence heading into the next few weeks of competition."
The next event on the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series will be held at the Windaroo Lakes Golf Club next Wednesday 25 & Thursday 26 July 2018.
