Scott Strange has secured his place at this year’s Open Championship at St Andrews after a second place finish at The Open Mizuno Open on the Japan Tour on Sunday.
Strange was a strong contender going into the final round at the JFE Setonaikai Golf Club in Okayama after firing 4-under 68 in the third round to be 12-under and tied for the lead with Japan’s Taichi Teshima.
"I’ve already had my mate over there texting me all week saying ‘you have got to get into The Open because I’m on your bag,’ so I’m really looking forward to it," said Strange
"I have played the Old Course a few times at the Dunhill Links but never The Open," he added.
Strange will join a large Aussie contingent who have earned exemption into this year’s Open including Adam Scott, Jason Day, John Senden, Greg Chalmers, Rod Pampling, Brett Rumford and Marcus Fraser.
The 144th Open will be played at St Andrews from 12-19 July 2015.
