Peter Senior saved his best till last at
the Senior PGA Championship in Michigan, a final round 68 seeing him take top
Australian honours at the second over 50’s major of the year.
The reigning Australian Masters champion
finished the week at 4-under-par after rounds of 69-69-74-68, his Saturday play
the only blemish in an otherwise positive week.
Four Australians earned starts in the
tournament, Senior’s fellow US Champions Tour regular Craig Parry teeing up
while Peter Fowler and Peter O’Malley made the journey from the European Senior
Tour.
O’Malley was on track for an excellent week
but was derailed by a triple bogey seven in the third round in his first
tournament in the US since joining the senior ranks.
At 3-under for the week he was one shot
behind Peter Senior and T36 with Peter Fowler another shot further back and
T39.
Craig Parry finished the week 1-over-par
with rounds of 70-70-74-71 but could have been several shots better if not for
a run of triple bogey/double bogey in consecutive holes on Saturday.
Parry has played some solid golf since joining
the Champions Tour this year but has fallen victim most weeks to one bad hole
or round.
