It’s been a difficult 18 months for Peter Senior with injury issues affecting his game but after two good recent outings he might be due to turn the corner at this week’s Encompass Championship.
Tendonitis in his left elbow forced Senior
to withdraw midway through the third round of the Senior Players Championship
three weeks ago but a top-10 the previous week, and four solid rounds at the US
Senior Open a fortnight ago, suggest some good play is not far away.
Since topping the 2009 Q-School Senior has
achieved everything but a win on the over 50’s circuit and comes to North Shore
CC in Illinois with a decent record in the event’s two previous stagings.
Senior finished T15 in the tournament’s
inaugural year in 2013 and T33 last year but will be looking to improve on
those results this week.
Senior is joined in the field by Steve
Elkington who tees up for only the fourth time in 2015.
The 1995 US PGA champion has concentrated
on off-course business interests most of the year and has struggled in the three
events he has contested.
Elkington withdrew from the Allianz
Championship in February and finished near the tail of the field in both the
Greater Gwinnett Championship in April and the Insperity Championship in May.
He finished T29 at the Encompass last year
and T47 in 2013.
