Rumford rolls on in China

Brett Rumford has continued his 2017 return to form finishing just outside the top-10 and top Australian at the European Tour’s Shenzen International in China.

Brett Rumford has continued his 2017 return to form finishing just outside the top-10 and top Australian at the European Tour’s Shenzen International in China.

""Rumford, a rejuvenated figure since winning back his full playing rights courtesy of a brilliant victory at the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth in February, posted scores of 72-67-68-70 to be 11-under and T14 at the Genzon Golf Club.

With 20 birdies for the week, Rumford showed his game is back in full flight though two late dropped shots Sunday was disappointing.

3-under for his final round standing on the 14th tee, Rumford made two bogeys and a birdie on his way to the clubhouse but will be pleased with his play overall.

Andrew Dodt was next best of the Australians after charging to the finish line with his best round of the week, a Sunday 67 that jumped him 19 places up the leaderboard.

Three birdies and an eagle at the short par-4 11th was an impressive way to finish on what was a difficult day for scoring in China.

Jason Scrivener was a model of consistency for the week and signed for a final round of even par 72 to finish 4-under and T45.

Sam Brazel and Ryan Fox were a shot further back sharing 51st place while Wade Ormsby was the last of the Australasians to make the cut and was T57 at 1-under for the week.

Ormsby will be disappointed with a third round 76 which saw him tumble down the leaderboard in what was otherwise another good week.

Scott Hend, who had high hopes at the start of the week after a top five finish at this event in 2016, couldn’t get going and missed the cut with rounds of 73-75.

Nathan Holman’s run of outs continued, the former Australian PGA Champion withdrawing after 13 holes of the weather interrupted opening round.
