Presnell looking to bounce back

Four missed cuts is no way to start a Web.com Tour season and Alistair Presnell will be hoping to end that miserable run when he tees up a this week’s Chile Classic in Santiago.

Presnell finished runner-up in this tournament a year ago and while that was at a different venue the Victorian will hopefully recall some of the good vibes he brought to the tournament then.

It’s been Presnell’s worst start to a season on the secondary Tour since 2012 when he missed three cuts in his first four starts, ironically his only made cut that year coming in Chile and resulting in a top 20 finish.

There are 12 Australians in the field this week, Presnell joined by James Nitties, Ash Hall, Brett Drewitt, Oliver Goss, Steve Allan, Bryden Macpherson, Scott Gardiner, Adam Crawford, Rhein Gibson, Bronson La’Cassie and Nick Flanagan.

Nitties and La’Cassie were the standout performers at last week’s tournament in Brazil, Nitties in particular seemingly finding something after a poor opening round 74.

He followed with scores of 63-65-68 to climb from the tail of the field to a share of 24th and if he can maintain that form could be a contender this week.

Rookies Oliver Goss, Brett Drewitt and Bryden Macpherson are also looking for good results, Goss in particular after falling out of the top 25 money leaders last week.

Drewitt has made a decent start to his Web.com rookie season making three cuts from four starts with a best finish of T22 while Macpherson has had the opposite start with three missed cuts in four starts.

Goss, 20th on the money list heading into last week’s event, is somewhere in the middle with two made cuts and two missed cuts showing some inconsistency.

However, the 21-year-old has shown he has the game to compete at the top level posting a T12 and a T10 in the two cuts he has made to now be 33rd on the money list.
