The ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia visits plenty of
beautiful destinations every year but New Caledonia is a standout for
Queensland Pro Michael Wright.

Having been played as a Tour event since 2011, Wright has
finished inside the top-15 every time he has played the South Pacific Open Championship
including a runner-up result in 2013.

Wright believes the secret to his success lies in the beauty
of the Tina Golf Course.  

"The location in Noumea is unreal. The golf course,
especially the back-9 with it being set out on the peninsula, is just
spectacular," said Wright.

"That could be why I am more relaxed over here. Looking at
the view away from the golf course, rather than looking down the fairway all
the time seems to help me."

"Golf is a funny thing; you never know what can happen. But
the vibe is definitely good here. If you have a good vibe then that gives you a
lot of good feelings and memories and that translates into a good performance."

Arriving in New Caledonia for a fifth time, Wright is always
impressed by the unique culture that awaits, just a short two hour flight from
Brisbane.

"I love it here this week; it’s one of my favourite
tournaments of the year. It’s a great location, great atmosphere and great
people to be around."

"You feel like you are in a completely different part of the
world here. We were down wind and our flight only took an hour and 38 minutes
yesterday so we are so close but with the French culture you feel so far away."

Before he gets down to business on the golf course, Wright
intends to spend the day on the water enjoying the New Caledonian water sports.

"I don’t know if we will do too much fishing but we are just
getting out on the boat to look around, it’s such a beautiful place," added
Wright.

Michael Wright is joined in the field at the South Pacific
Open Championship by Northern Territory PGA Champion
Jordan Zunic, 2015 PGA Tour of Australasia Player of the Year Matthew Millar
and three time Web.com Tour winner Michael Sim.

The South Pacific Open Championship tees off on Wednesday 21
September with the champion to be decided on Saturday 24 September.Played for $140,000 the South Pacific Open
