There are plenty of contenders at the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship who will be trying to inscribe their name on the Charles Bonham Trophy come Sunday. 

We’ve picked a few players who we think you should keep your eye on this week at City Golf Club.

Ash Hall 

Returning home after primarily playing overseas, the former Web.com Tour Professional will be looking to improve from his tied 16th finish at the 2015 Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship. It’s been a good year for Hall who kick-started his season with a victory in his home state at the Victorian PGA Championship. While Hall comes into the week after missing the cut at the BMW ISPS HANDA NZ Open he has the game to be at the top end of the leaderboard come the weekend.

Todd Sinnott

Todd Sinnott comes into this week fresh from a seventh place finish at the BMW ISPS HANDA NZ Open. A big hitter on tour, Sinnott has secured two top-10 finishes from four starts this season. In the past 12-months the Victorian has been honing his skills overseas on the European Challenge Tour with his best finish coming at the Tshwane Open ending in the top-50.

Steve Jones

After being absent from the Tour for the past 12-month Jones, found himself leading the first round of the BMW ISPS HANDA NZ Open in Queenstown last week. Renowned as one of the longest hitters on the PGA Tour of Australasia, Steve has performed consistently however Jones is still chasing his breakthrough win. Jones also plays on the OneAsia tour.

Matt Millar

With two top-10 finishes from five starts this season, Matt Millar might just be in for another stellar year. In 2015, Millar finished runner-up to New Zealander Ryan Fox, who fired back-to-back eagles to win by a single shot. The following week Millar broke through for his maiden victory as a Professional at the Holden NZ PGA Championship. Millar’s best finish this season was at Oates Victorian Open in February where he finished runner up.

Geoff Drakeford

Another long hitter, Geoff Drakeford ended his 2015 season on a high with a runner up finish at the NSW PGA Championship and prior to that runner up at the 2015 Holden NZ PGA Championship. Last week BMW ISPS HANDA NZ Open Drakeford opened his week with 3-under 69 to sit within the top-5; over four rounds of golf he reeled off 18 birdies. In 2014, Drakeford took out the Kel Nagle Plate for the best performing rookie at the Australian PGA Championship in the same year he mingled with Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy on the leaderboard at the Australian Open.

THE WILDCARD

Deyen Lawson 

Finishing tied seventh with Sinnott at the BMW ISPS HANDA NZ Open, Deyen Lawson is a wildcard pick this week. The former PGA Trainee has shown solid form on the PGA Tour of Australia over the past 18-months with a game that keeps improving with each passing week. Lawson got his 2015 season off to a good start at the Oates Vic Open where he finished tied 11th.

The Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship will be contested at City Golf Club in Toowoomba from March 17-20.

Players will all be vying for their share of the AU$125,000 prize purse, with the winner receiving Official World Golf Ranking Points and full exemption on to the PGA Tour of Australasia for the remainder of this season plus a further two years.
