Queenslander Rod Pampling teed off his week with a 60 and
ended it with a victory at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
Firing rounds of 60, 68, 71 and 65 for a tournament total
20-under 264, Pampling won his third PGA TOUR tournament by two shots from
American Brooks Koepka.
At 47 years of age, Pampling’s win comes 10 years after his
last and secures his future on the PGA TOUR until the end of the 2018-2019
season.
This win starts a new chapter in Pampling’s career after he
has had to play his way back onto the PGA TOUR via the Web.com Tour for the
past two seasons.
"It’s extremely rewarding," said Pampling, who
will play the Emirates Australian Open and Australian PGA Championship in the
coming three weeks.
"Winning Arnold Palmer’s event is still on top. But
coming back from what we’ve had the last few years, to get a win under the
belt, it’s phenomenal. Amazing."
Pampling becomes the oldest player to win on TOUR since
Davis Love III won his 21st title at the 2015 Wyndham Championship at the age
of 51 years
