Wade Ormsby’s return from a neck injury which saw him miss the bulk of the 2016 season is back on track, the South Australian making his first cut of the year at the Dubai Desert Classic.

The 36-year-old fired rounds of 69-72-73-72 to finish 2-under and T42 at the Emirates Golf Club.

Ormsby is playing the 2017 season on a medical exemption after the mystery injury saw him stop playing in May last year.

He returned during the Australian summer of golf where a T4 finish at the NSW Open was a highlight.

He made the cut at the first event of the European season, the UBS Hong Kong Open in  December, but missed weekend play at both the Abu Dhabi Championship and the Qatar Masters.

Also finishing 2-under were Scott Hend and Sam Brazel while Western Australia’s Jason Scrivener was one shot better and T39.

Amateur Curtis Luck was the best of the nine Australasians in the field, the reigning US Amateur champion finishing the week 5-under and T23.

While a good result, Luck will be disappointed with his final round 75 which dropped him from a share of 11^th after 54 holes.

New Zealand’s Ryan Fox (T63) and 2015 Australian PGA champion Nathan Holman (68^th) were the last of the Australasians to make the cut.

Holman, who has been struggling with his game for several months, opened with consecutive rounds of 1-under 71 but limped to an 82 in the third round.

However, he hit back with his best score of the week Sunday, a 2-under 70, a determined effort from the 25-year-old.

Former winner Richard Green never got going in the tournament with back to back rounds of 75 on his way to missing he cut, Andrew Dodt also not around for the weekend after scores of 73-75 on the opening two days.
