With one of the biggest purses of the Web.com Tour season up for grabs this week in Utah Sydney’s Jamie Arnold has an excellent chance to break into the all-important top-25 on the money list.

""Arnold is the best placed of the Australians on the 2017 money list and continues to play consistent golf though at 39th in the standings needs to kick things up a gear if he is to graduate to next year’s PGA TOUR.

Arnold has been the surprise Australian performer on the secondary Tour in 2017 after a shaky start which saw him miss five of his first six cuts.

But two top five results and a host of top-25’s have him on the cusp of achieving something special if he can find just a handful of shots each week.

If history is any guide it will take in the order of US$160,000 to finish 25th on the money list and guarantee a card for the 2018 PGA TOUR, Arnold presently sitting a shade over $75,000.

The $700,000 purse at the Utah Championship is one of the four biggest outside of the Finals Series events which end the year making this week a crucial one for Arnold.

Also needing to step up this week is Rhein Gibson who advanced from the secondary tour in 2015 only to lose his PGA TOUR card at the end of the 2016 season.

A proven performer at this level Gibson is languishing in 51st position on the money list though with his aggressive style of play could easily turn that around any given week.

Also in need of a turnaround in form is veteran Steve Allan who is currently outside the top-100 guaranteed to play the Web.com Tour again next year.

The 43-year-old has made just seven cuts in 13 starts but posted only one top-25 result all year, a worrying trend for one of the stalwarts if the secondary circuit.

The other Australians teeing up this week are Robert Allenby, Mark Hensby and Peter Lonard with Matt Goggin on the alternates list.
