2006 US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy has taken top Australian honours at the John Deere Classic with some vintage play in Illinois.
Ogilvy has been at less than his best for much of 2016 despite showing glimpses of form at various points of the season.
However, a final round 63 at the Canadian Open three weeks ago signaled a return to form and he backed up this week with three sub 70 rounds in trying conditions at TPC Deere Run.
A 12-under total after 72 holes was good for T16, his only other top-25 all year aside from his T9 in Canada, an encouraging .360 Strokes Gained Putting statistic one of the keys to his performance.
Ogilvy finished one ahead of another player who has struggled for much of the season, T22.
Matt Jones was the last of the Australians to finish double digits in the red, his 10-under total good for T27 and moving him to 124 on the FedEx Cup standings with one full field event remaining.
Stuart Appleby (T40) and Rod Pampling (73rd) were the only other Australians to make the cut, Rhein Gibson and Mark Hensby both missing by two shots.
In all eight Australians failed to qualify for the weekend with Robert Allenby, Gavin Coles, John Senden, Jarrod Lyle, Cameron Percy and Steven Bowditch all joining Hensby and Gibson.
