City Golf Club in Toowoomba holds bittersweet memories for Matthew Miller.
The Canberra local will be looking to go one better at the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship this year after finishing runner-up in 2015 to New Zealander Ryan Fox.
Fox blitzed his closing three holes firing back-to-back eagles on the 16th and 17th to win the 2015 championship by a single shot, leaving Miller to share second place with Queenslander, Cameron Smith.
"I’m looking forward to getting out there and trying to go one better this year. I did all I could last year and Ryan just happened to have a strong finish," said Millar.
"I was happy with the result last year, but disappointed with the way it panned out, obviously there isn’t much you can control."
It’s been a steady start to the 2016 season for Millar who has recorded two top-10 finishes from his last five starts and narrowly missed a victory at Oates Victorian Open in February where he finished runner up to another New Zealander, Michael Long.
However, Miller is comfortable with where his game is at leading into round one and feels the City Golf Club layout will suit his style of play.
"The results haven’t been as good but I know it’s pretty close. It’s just a couple of things that go either way that have given me 23rd last week as opposed to a 10th position, then a 12th the week before which was down to a slow start and a good weekend."
"The game is pretty good and this sort of golf course will suite me, it’s quite narrow and it’s not that long so it’s certainly a course that will suit me."
Although it may not be quite the start the 2015 PGA Tour of Australasia Player of the Year had this time last year, he will certainly be one to watch out on course this week.
"It’s good to come back, I like the golf course and it’s a great week; the PGA and City Golf Club do a great job at putting on this event."
The Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship will be contested at City Golf Club in Toowoomba from March 17-20.
Players will all be vying for their share of the AU$125,000 prize purse, with the winner receiving Official World Golf Ranking Points and full exemption on to the PGA Tour of Australasia for the remainder of this season plus a further two years.
Spectators are welcome to attend the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship with free entry to the tournament across all four days.
