Matthew Millar fired a round of 8-under par 62 in perfect golf conditions to win the Carriers Arms Hotel-Motel Maryborough Pro-Am by one shot from overnight leader Deyen Lawson.
Millar’s round was near faultless with a 4-under par 30 on the front-9, followed by 4-under par 32 to close out the back-9, for his 8-under par 62 and a tournament total 11-under par 129.
Millar’s round consisted of nine birdies and just one bogey coming at the tricky 170m par 3, 11th hole which slowed momentum.
“I really like the golf course here at Maryborough because it allows me to play to my strengths," said Millar.
“My short iron shots and wedge play have always been my strength, today they were really accurate which gave me a lot of chances to make birdies."
Deyen Lawson had another solid round of 5-under par 65 today for a tournament total of 10-under par 130 to finish outright second and two shots clear of the group of Lucas Herbert, Adam Burdett, Ian Esson and Damien Jordan.
“I drove the ball well today which gave me a lot of opportunities for birdies," said Lawson.
“I had good touch with my short game also which saved me a couple times when I need to get up and down to save par."
The Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series Professionals will now enjoy a day off before play begins Monday 7th August at 7am for the Mt Coolum Golf Club Pro-Am.
