Angel Cabrera is one of three Masters Tournament winners in the field at the Fiji International, and the Argentinian is looking forward to new experiences during his first visit to the South Pacific paradise.

""The two-time Major winner, who triumphed in the 2007 U.S. Open and 2009 Masters among his 51 professional victories, is joined at Natadola Bay by 2000 Green Jacket winner Vijay Singh. The Fijian golfing legend also designed the Championship Course where the event has been staged since 2014 and has overseen major renovations ahead of this year’s event.

Mike Weir completes the trio of players who have previously triumphed at Augusta National, and the 2003 winner was drawn to the Fiji International, along with his family, through his long-time friendship with Singh.

The event was first included on the European Tour International Schedule in 2016, and this year is tri-sanctioned for the first time by the European Tour, the Asian Tour and the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia.

The field also includes two-time European Tour winner and reigning Asian Tour Order of Merit Champion Scott Hend, and his fellow Australian Brett Rumford, who sealed his sixth European Tour title at the 2017 ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth.

Three-time European Tour winner Jeunghun Wang of Korea will also tee it up at Natadola Bay, alongside 18 year old Thai Phachara Khongwatmai, who finished in second place behind Rumford in Perth earlier this year.

Player quotes

Angel Cabrera:

"This is a completely new experience and I’m hoping for a great week. There are very good players coming to the tournament – that was also important to me. I’m always looking for new challenges so it’s certainly something I will remember.

"It is great that this is a European Tour event, it’s very nice to be here on this side of the world for the first time.

"Being a part of the European Tour is very good. The European Tour was the one that got me playing in Majors so I think it is very important for the up and coming golfers to play in events like this that are going to boost their careers."

Mike Weir:

"It’s beautiful, it’s been a bucket list item for my daughter for a long time. I’ve heard about it a lot from playing many rounds with Vijay and it’s just a beautiful place.

"Vijay’s been a great ambassador for Fiji and a great player worldwide, one of the best players of our generation. He’s been a friend of mine for a long time so I was glad to come and support him here.

"It’s such a nice event and early in my career I played a lot in Australia and some in Asia so to be back kind of where it started for me and playing some of these events is quite nice and refreshing for me. I’m thrilled to be able to bring my children to different parts of the world.

"I think it’s a nice solid ocean-side course, it gives you lots of room with the wind because the wind is such a factor and I think they’ve done a nice job planning for strategy around conditions."
