After taking a stunning route back to the Web.com Tour courtesy of a blistering finish to the 2015 PGA TOUR China season, Bryden Macpehrson is ready to roll at this week’s Chitimacha Louisiana Open.
The 25-year-old is the subject of an extensive feature on the Web.com Tour’s website this week
in the lead-up to the tournament, the first event back after a five week break.
Macpherson struggled in his rookie season last year and finished 126th on the money list to miss out on any kind of exemption for this year.
Faced with the choice of waiting for the Q-School or heading back to China, where he had some success the previous season, Macpherson decided to take option two and it proved the right choice.
Two wins and four other top five finishes in eight starts saw him win the Order of Merit and full status back to America’s secondary Tour.
In the opening two events of the season Macpherson hasn’t had his best stuff but with just a one week break after Louisiana before the Tour gets into full swing, look for his results to start improving.
Macpherson is one of seven Australians to take their place in this week’s field including last year’s runner-up Rhein Gibson.
Gibson has struggled since graduating to the PGA TOUR this season and as his exemption category has continued to slide the 30-year-old has traversed the globe chasing playing opportunities.
He teed up at the Perth International three weeks ago as well as last week BMW New Zealand Open but is now back in the US looking to secure his playing rights for next year.
Finishing one shot behind last year’s winner Kelly Kraft will give Gibson some confidence heading into the week and another good finish might be the catalyst he needs to get back to playing his best.
Steve Allan, Brett Drewitt, Mathew Goggin, Oliver Goss and Peter Lonard round out the Australian challenge in Louisiana, Drewitt the only one of the group to make the cut in each of the first two events of the year.
