Bryden Macpherson has achieved his goal of winning the PGA Tour China money list and full exemption to the 2016 Web.com Tour despite posting his worst finish in eight starts for the year.
Macpherson was all but assured of finishing atop the money list when his only realistic rival, Josh Geary, elected to play the Australian PGA instead of the season ending Capital Airlines Open.
While Macpherson finished T36 for the week, just his second result outside the top five since returning to China in September, it was enough to confirm his card for next year.
The top five earners from PGA Tour China earn status on the Web.com Tour but the player who finishes at the top of the list receives a full exemption and has the opportunity to set their entire schedule for the year in advance.
Geary will also receive a card after holding on to second place on the final Order of Merit but will likely earn less starts than Macpherson.
Macpherson and Geary were the only two Australasians to finish in the top five, Rohan Blizard next best in seventh followed by New Zealand’s Daniel Pearce at 14th with Peter Cooke (23rd) and David Lutterus (24th) the only others inside the top 25.
Macpherson played the Web.com Tour in 2015 without much success after earning his card at Q-School last year.
However, with the luxury of a full exemption, and the confidence of winning twice in China as well as finishing top five four other times in seven tournaments, he will be one to watch in 2016.
