Michael Long has played one of the most miraculous golf
shots seen in the history of the Oates Vic Open to win the title.
Ending regulation play tied for the lead with Matt Millar,
Long won the tournament on the first playoff hole in remarkable circumstances.
Teeing off the 18th, which was played sudden
death, Long found the middle of the fairway. In a bizarre stroke of misfortune
he pulled his second shot well left, almost crossing into the hazard.
Staring at a horrible lie in thick rough, Long played an
incredible shot to eight feet of the hole, delighting not only himself but also
the crowd ringing the green ten deep.
All through this drama, Millar watched on in amazement
before standing over his own 25 foot birdie putt.
Unable to make it, Millar then handed the tournament’s fate
into Long’s hands. With nerves of steel he drained his eight foot birdie putt
to claim the 2016 Oates Vic Open.
