Sweden’s David Lingmerth has launched himself up to the top of
the Australian PGA Championship leaderboard after the second round
played today at RACV Royal Pines Resort. After challenging conditions in the first round, players were happy to
be greeted by more favourable weather today however, it was by no means a
walk in the park.
Setting the tournament alight was PGA TOUR player Rhein Gibson from New
South Wales. After opening his round with back-to-back bogeys, Gibson
caught fire with an eagle on the 9th and went onto shoot 9-under in 10 holes.
At the start of the day Gibson had been facing a missed cut but after two rounds he is now 1-under the card and tied 8th.
Playing in the afternoon field David Lingmerth shot 4-under 68 to top the leaderboard on 3-under the card.
Lingmerth was pleased with his performance but believes a lower number
could still be possible for him on the newly re-modelled layout.
Sitting just one shot behind him is leading Australian Matt Millar whose
excellent form across the 2015 season saw him awarded the PGA Tour of
Australasia Player of the Year on Tuesday night at the Greg Norman
Medal.
Joining Millar is round one leader Zander Lombard (ZAF), Mark Foster
(ENG), Dylan Frittelli (ZAF) as well as Peter Uihlein (USA) and Pablo
Martin Benavides (ESP) who each rallied today to fired rounds of 5-under
67.
Rounding out the top-10 on the leaderboard are Gibson, Todd Sinnott
(AUS), Jason Scrivener (AUS), Ashley Hall (AUS) and Tom Lewis (ENG)
The second round cut was made at 6-over the card with 71 players making it to the weekend rounds.
The third round of the Australian PGA Championship will tee off at
6.25am with the lead group of David Lingmerth and Mark Foster on course
at 11.51am

Key Quotes:
David Lingmerth, 73, 68, 3-under, 1st
"I had to fight for it a bit more than I would have liked but all in all I’m feeling like I’m playing very solid."
"It feels kind of crazy in a way with how it all started yesterday. I
three putted the first two holes and I was 3-over par and found myself
at 4-over after like 4 or 6 holes or whatever and here we are after two
rounds and not only do I have a chance, I guess I’m right at the top
there."
"I’m really going to have to play very well to win but I do feel like I should have a good shot."
Peter Uihlein, 75, 67, 2-under, T2
"My goal was to hit every green and I didn’t get that chance on 12 but other than I took every chance I had at every green."
"They’re (Aussie fans) good, they’re fun, they’re
boisterous I guess is the term. They’re good, they’re fun and they
enjoy golf."
Matt Millar, 72, 70, 2-under, T2
"I played pretty solid out there, a couple of errors but I think there’s a lot of errors to be made out there."
"It’s great to see a lot of people out on the course and a few following
our group and a few following some of the bigger names as well. So
that’s great and yeah, that doesn’t bother me at all.
