A brilliant final round 66 has seen Marc Leishman post his first top-10 since February, the laid back Victorian claiming a share of ninth place at the Travelers Championship.
Leishman, a former winner of the tournament, held a share of the lead with 36 holes to play but stumbled to a 1-over 71 in the third round to slip down the standings.
However, he found form again Sunday with six birdies against two bogies to move six places up the leaderboard and just four shots off the lead.
It was a positive week for Leishman who has threatened a good result for much of the year without quite putting all parts of his game together.
With the FedEx Cup playoffs looming he is rounding into form at a critical time and will now be looking for a big finish to the year.
While Leishman was the best of the dozen Australians to tee up in Connecticut it was another good week for the Down Under campaigners with nine of the 12 making the weekend’s play.
Aaron Baddeley and Cameron Smith were next best at T34, the result Smith’s best since a T19 at the Shell Houston Open in April.
Smith has struggled to find his feet in his rookie season on the PGA TOUR and seems unlikely to retain a full card but he will be encouraged by his play at TPC River Highlands.
He was above average in both Greens in Regulation and Strokes Gained Putting categories this week and with a likely trip to the four event Finals Series looming those will be important elements of the game.
Rod Pampling saved his best golf till last with a Sunday 66 moving him up 22 places to T38 and an expected lift in the FedEx Cup placings to 191.
The Queenslander needs to retain a place in the top-200 to be eligible for the upcoming Finals Series which will determine 2017 cards and with only two events remaining until that field is finalised it was a good time to produce a score.
Greg Chalmers was T47 alongside Monday qualifiers Stuart Appleby and Cameron Percy while Matt Jones rounded out those making the cut with a T64 finish.
Geoff Ogilvy, Robert Allenby and Steven Bowditch were the three Australians not to qualify for the weekend.
