Leishman on top of the world in South Africa

After a disappointing week at the Australian Open which saw him miss the cut, Marc Leishman has regrouped in South Africa to claim his second international title at the European Tour’s Nedbank Challenge.

""Leishman claimed a huge pay day at the limited field event with brilliant rounds of 68-68-66-67 to win by six shots over Sweden’s Henrik Stenson.

The winner’s cheque for just over AU1.7 million is easily the biggest of his career but the confidence of overcoming a quality field, albeit small, will be almost more important.

Leishman has proved himself a big event specialist in recent years posting high finishes at some of the world’s biggest tournaments, a heartbreaking play-off loss at the Open at St Andrews this year proof he has the game to compete at the highest levels.

For all his obvious talent, though, Leishman hasn’t proved a prolific winner with just one title to his name on the PGA TOUR in a six year career.

That could be about to change in 2016, however, this week’s win proving he can get his game back in shape in the space of a week.

Steven Bowditch was the only other Australian in the field but after a hectic finish to his season, including playing his first Presidents Cup, he couldn’t muster his best golf and finished at the tail of the field.
