A top-five finish and a place in the field at The Open Championship has eluded Aussie pair Won Joon Lee and Dylan Perry after a difficult final day at the Gateway to The Open Mizuno Open on the Japan Golf Tour.

"DylanLee began the final round at Royal Golf Club in Ibaraki in a tie for third with Perry a further shot back, the top four finishers all earning a start at Royal Portrush next month.

But on a day where only five players broke 70 the Aussie pair were among those who went the wrong way on the leaderboard, finishing tied for 14th as Yuta Ikeda claimed his 21st win in Japan.

Even pat through five holes, Lee made consecutive bogeys at six and seven and dropped further shots either side of the turn to be 4-over on his round. Birdies at 11 and 13 saw him fight back but three consecutive bogeys to finish dropped him to 1-over for the week and just outside the top-10.

Perry has made a bright start to his rookie year in Japan and was set to post another high finish until disaster on the par-5 16th hole where he had a triple-bogey eight to drop to 5-over on his round.

A birdie at the par-4 finishing hole softened the blow somewhat as he signed for a 4-over 76 and a move up to 33rd on the moneylist.

An even-par round of 72 was enough for Queensland’s Brad Kennedy to move up into a tie for 22nd with Anthony Quayle a shot further back in a tie for 24th.
