Laycock makes solid start at NSW Open

Victorian Scott Laycock has opened his NSW Open campaign solidly, firing 6-under 67 to linger in the top-5 after round one.

Victorian Scott Laycock has opened his NSW Open campaign solidly, firing 6-under 67 to linger in the top-5 after round one.

""Eight birdies, three of which came consecutively in his final three holes, set Laycock up to be well placed going into tomorrows second round.

"It felt pretty good today," said Laycock.

"To birdie the last three holes was pretty cool."

"I started off a bit slow. I three putted the second hole then I birdied a couple and then I three putted the 18th to turn 1-under."

Not even a broken driver could tamper with Laycock’s game, arriving at the tee for his final nine holes only to discover his equipment required repairs.

"I went to tee off the first and my driver was broken so I changed it and teed off with a three wood, then I had six birdies on that side."

Laycock has also been impressed by the Greg Norman designed Stonecutters Ridge, which has been ranked in the top-100 courses in Australia.

"It’s my first time here. Scoring is going to be nice and low, it’s a great conditioned course."

"It’s nice to have a course that’s not five and six iron into every hole, which I normally have to do," added Laycock, who owes the round to his performance with the flat stick.

"I’ve been playing pretty well, but my putting has been ordinary. I tried something out on the putting green yesterday, it worked and we’ll see how long it lasts."

"I’ll just try to keep making birdies," quipped Laycock.

The 2015 New South Wales Open will be played from 12-15 November for a prize purse of AU$110,000, the winner also receives Official World Golf Ranking Points and becomes fully exempt on to the PGA Tour of Australasia for the remainder of this season plus a further two years.

Round two of the NSW Open will get underway tomorrow at 6:45am with Laycock teeing off at 12:20pm alongside Daniel Fox and Steve Conran.
