Ladies aiming to make history at the WA Open


Yesterday, Michelle Payne made history by being the first women to ride a Melbourne Cup winner.

to write their names into the record books.

Amateur’s Hannah Green and Hira
Naveed are teeing up in the Nexus Risk TSA Group WA Open, a men’s Professional
tournament which has, since its inception in 1913 never been won by a woman.

This year isn’t the first time ladies have teed up in the tournament, Green in
fact also played in 2013 as did Minjee Lee for the third consecutive year.

But
for Naveed this will be her first time competing after she already upstaged the
men at pre-qualifying to earn her place in this week’s field.

"For sure, I feel like my games up to it," said Naveed of
the challenge of competing in a men’s professional tournament.

"I hope I can
give the Pros a bit of competition and I’m looking forward to the opportunity,
it should be a good experience.
