Kennedy, Hendry fire in Japan

Brad Kennedy has pushed into the top-10 on the Japan Tour Order of Merit as both he and Michael Hendry shared second place at the KBC Augusta tournament at the weekend.

""Kennedy was 13th in earnings at the start of the week but produced his second top-3 finish in as many years at the Keya course to move to 9th on the money list.

Both Hendry and Kennedy finished five shots behind winner Ryo Ishikawa though it is the Queenslander who will rue a missed opportunity after starting the day just two behind.

In 2015 it was an even par third round which saw Kennedy fall off the pace at this tournament and ironically it was the same score in the final round this year which saw him unable to apply pressure to the leader.

However, both players will take confidence from the continuation of some excellent 2016 form, Hendry now boasting six consecutive top-10 finishes, five of those top-5s.

His last six tournament results read T5, 2, T5, T7, 4th and T2 while Kennedy has posted five top-10’s in 11 tournaments this year, four of those fifth or better.

Brendan Jones was next best of the Australians at T25 while Matt Griffin will be disappointed with his weekend play after sharing fourth through 36 holes only to finish T51.

A third round 79, which included six bogeys and a double against a lone birdie, did the most damage though a Sunday 75 was also less than his best.

Aaron Townsend finished on the same score as Griffin and was the last of the Australasians to make the cut, Kurt Barnes, Scott Strange, David Smail and Adam Bland all missing the weekend.
