The 13-time Tour winner finished T22 at 9-under par at the ANA Open, nine shots behind eventual winner Katsumasa Miyamoto.
Only four of the seven Australasians who teed up made the cut with Brad Kennedy a shot behind Jones and T28 followed by Scott Strange (T43) and Adam Bland (T57).
Missing the cut this week were former champion Kurt Barnes, Stephen Leaney and leading Australasian money winner this year Michael Hendry.
With just three events remaining before the Japan Tour enters its most lucrative stretch of tournaments all the Australasians will be looking to have their games peak in coming weeks.
The Japan Open, to be played mid-October, is the first of the four most prestigious titles to be played for each year culminating with the Casio World Open in late November.
