The PGA is pleased to announce that the
Indooroopilly Golf Club will play host to the QLD/ NT PGA Trainee Championship
in 2016.
To be played from 12th – 14th
September, the state championship is the marquee event on the QLD/ NT Trainee
calendar, and both local and interstate Trainees will look to have their name
engraved on the Carnegie Clark Cup alongside previous winners such as Rod
Pampling and Greg Norman.
The tournament has most recently been held at
Coral Cove Golf Club and was an opportunity for further exposure of professional
golf inmore regional areas.
The shift to metropolitan Brisbane will now
allow another audience to experience and view the next generation of PGA
Professionals and QLD/NT State Manager Broc Greenhalgh is enthusiastic about
the move.
"The PGA Trainees are the future leaders of
our sport and we strive to ensure each of them maximise their career potential,"
said Greenhalgh.
"Indooroopilly Golf Club is one of the
premier golf facilities in the country which will no doubt attract many PGA Trainees
to the event purely based on its reputation."
With Indooroopilly Golf Club being a 36 hole
facility, PGA Trainees will get the opportunity to play all holes during the
championship, a unique opportunity in itself.
Recently appointed Indooroopilly Golf Club
Director of Golf, David Scott also sees the event as an exciting addition to
the club.
"The Indooroopilly Golf Club prides itself in
the support of professional golf, not only employing two PGA Trainees here at
the club, but also a number of current PGA Tour Professionals who also have a
strong connection to the club," said Scott.
"We are looking forward to seeing some of Australia’s
most talented PGA Trainees at our course and we confident our members will
embrace the tournament."
The tournament will see close to 100 PGA
Trainees from all across Australia make the journey. One of four State PGA Trainee Championships held each
year, the event will boast a prize purse of $35,000 and with the previous two
winners of the event being from interstate, the pride of the local PGA Trainees
will no doubt like to see the title stay on home soil.
