The in form Matt Millar has had an impressive season on the PGA Tour of Australasia this year, accumulating seven top-10 finishes; including a victory at the Holden NZ PGA Championship in March.
This week at the NSW Open, Millar’s form has been no different firing a stable opening round of 5-under 67, bogey free, to be three shots off the lead heading into day two.
"I was pretty comfortable, five birdies, no bogeys. I didn’t feel like I got into any trouble," said Millar.
"I was getting a little frustrated with some holes. I seemed to be on 3-under for a long time."
"I hit a lot of good puts that just scared the hole but wouldn’t go in. It was good to make a birdie at seven and then on nine, my final hole."
Millar admits his game has been in good shape and that 2015 has been a great season, but ensuring his form holds going into the big summer tournaments is on Millar’s mind.
"It’s been a great season and I hope that continues. I really want to try and make sure that happens in the bigger events too."
"It’s important to play well in these events but the Australian Maters, the Australian Open and the Australian PGA Championship are the events I want to try and make sure my good play continues. It’s a balance of not trying to hard and just letting it happen."
In his last four starts Miller has finished in the top-10 on three occasions including runner up at the South Pacific Open in September.
With four more tournaments on the PGA Tour of Australasia schedule this year, Miller will be one to watch in the coming weeks.
