Nathan Holman rocketed into the top-20 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with one of the better scores in the final round at St Andrews.
Holman, playing on a sponsor’s invite, made
the most of his opportunity, producing a Sunday 68 at the Old Course to jump 16
places up the leaderboard to T19.
Holman and Nick Cullen were the only two
Australians to make the 54-hole cut in the popular pro-am tournament played
over three of Scotland’s best courses.
The cut comes after three rounds to ensure
all players have one round each at St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie with
the final round played at the Old Course.
With the top-10 eligible players from the
PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit earning exemption into the tournament
there was a bigger than usual contingent of Australians this week but most
found the going tough.
Wade Ormsby and Richard Green fell one shot
short of playing the final round while Steven Jeffress and Marcus Fraser were
three shy.
Andrew Dodt, Jake Higginbottom, Dimi
Papadatos, Josh Younger, Terry Pilkadaris, Scott Hend and Steve Dartnall were
all well outside the number.
Arnold stumbles in Italy
Scott Arnold endured an inexplicable horror
hole in the first round of the Challenge Tour’s EMC event in Italy, a
six-over-par 11 at the par-5 9th effectively ending his week.
Arnold, who posted his first Professional
victory in France three weeks ago, is on the cusp of breaking into the top 15
on the Order of Merit but didn’t help his cause with this week’s missed cut.
The opening round 80, which included the 11
and a double bogey six on the previous hole, ended his chances of making the
weekend and moving further up the standings.
It was little consolation but Arnold did
birdie the closing two holes in the first round and shot a much more
respectable even par 71 in the second round.
The Tour now moves to Ireland before the
final two events are staged in China and Oman.
