Hend’s Sunday 64 was the equal best round of the day in Beijing as was his final round 66 at last week’s Shenzhen International.

The Queenslander made 25 birdies and an eagle at the Topwin Golf Club but four dropped shots in the first round and a double bogey late in the third round proved too much to overcome.

Starting the final round seven shots behind leader Felipe Aguilar, Hend looked on track to do something special when he birdied five of his first six holes to close the gap.

But a bogey at the short par-4 seventh momentarily stopped his momentum and while he birdied the eighth to go to the turn 5-under for the round his rally was all but done.

Three back-9 birdies to post an 8-under round was a superb effort but not enough to overcome the brilliance of 20-year old Chinese superstar Haotong Li.

Long touted as China’s most promising prospect, Li also shot 64 to snatch victory by three shots and earn himself exemption to the European Tour.

Hend’s performance was the standout amongst the large Australasian contingent this week in an event co-sanctioned by the OneAsia Tour.

In a low scoring tournament Nathan Holman was next best at 11-under the card, rounds of 68-71-69-69 good for a T28 finish.

After missing the cut at last week’s Shenzhen International Brett Rumford came back to form with a final round 67 to post 10-under for the week and share 34th place. Jason Scrivener also saved his best till last, a Sunday 68 moving him 12 places up the standings to T44 at 8-under.

Nick Cullen was consistent over the four rounds with scores of 70-71-70-70 to be 7-under and T48 while New Zealand’s Ryan Fox overcame a disastrous third round 80 with a final round 67 to finish even par for the week and T63.

David Mackenzie played three solid rounds to open his week but lost his way on Sunday with a disappointing 80 to fall to the tail of the field.

Daniel Valente, Gareth Paddison, Dimi Papadatos, Josh Younger, Jamie Arnold, Steven Jeffress, Jason Norris, Michael Sim, Scott Strange, Lincoln Tighe and Wade Ormsby all missed the cut.
